EMACC’s East Multnomah County History

Established in 1987 by the same group that had worked to create Mount Hood Community College, and led by art teachers and theater lovers, the small East Metro Arts and Culture Council board became a non-profit in 1978.

Securing only project-based funds the group wrote small grants for public art projects, street banners and events like Arts Night in the Park, with the City of Gresham. The artists who demonstrated in the park would be invited to the Gresham Arts Walk, evolving in to the current Celebration for the Arts.

Changing to East Metro Arts Culture & Community in 2018, EMACC has hosted visiting artists for mural projects, puppetry and theater productions exploring community, social justice and youth violence issues. A part of Gresham Little Theater’s 50 productions, EMACC is now leading the RockwoodPlayhouse4Arts.

EMACC actively supports parks, recreation and community services, provides fiscal sponsorships and partnerships with critical social justice and community engagement organizations. EMACC is supporting, partnering and growing with our community in vibrant ways!

“ I am excited to be a part of EMACC! We are a diverse, energetic and fun little organization that is doing good things in the community!” Ms. Lupita
